A public transportation payment App
As a part of my work at Matrix, I was the lead designer of AnyWay, an App we created for Isracard company. The App's purpose is to create a digital solution for public transport payment, which hopefully will be an alternative for the current payment method, Rav-Kav card.

01
Project goals

In a digital age where we do almost everything on our smart-phones, it is imperative to provide a digital payment solution for public transportation, as well.
1. Flexibility
2. Cardless
Make the platform as flexible as possible, so it can be used by all kinds of people who use public transportation, such as teens, adults, and seniors.
No more receipts wasting paper. All the tickets and travel history are in the application.
3. Ecological
4. Profitable
The user doesn't need to calculate which contract is best for him. At the end of each month, the user will be charged retroactively with the most payfull contract according to his travels.

02
Some data
27%
of Israel population use daily public transportation.
72%
of the passengers in public transportation have smartphones.
5%
increase in the number of passengers on public transportation in 2019, comparing to 2018.
03
The challenges
Habits
Using AnyWay App is a big daily change for public transportation passengers. They got used to paying with a card / cash for years, and making them change this habit won’t be so easy, especially when it comes to less technological people, the elderly, and those who don’t have a smartphone at all.
Conditions
It is more challenging to scan a QR code with a phone on a bus full of people while the bus moves and shakes during a ride than to put a card on the scanner.
Competitors
The project belongs to a large credit company, which won a ministry of transportation tender with two other large companies that specialize in the field of transportation. Due to this, we had only two months to design the product without having any knowledge of transportation, compared to them.
Market
Since our target market includes many types of users like children, teenagers, adults, the elderly, and among them there are users with different technological levels - it is very challenging to create an app that all of them would like to use. Eventually, after market research, we decided to focus the UI mostly to children and teenagers.
Privacy
people are afraid that this App will collect information about them and track where they have been.

We used Assistant font because we were looking for a pleasant font with round corners and a high level of readability in smartphones, which has a version in English and Hebrew.
The most identified colors of the company are dark blue and red, but thankfully I could change some of them. I was still asked to use the shades of blue identified with the company, but I could give up the red color, which felt a little too strong and rough to me. Therefore, I was looking for colors that could fit in with the existing blues, but still create contrast and give a young, innovative and joyful feeling, so I chose pink and yellow, and used them mostly for icons, illustrations and highlights.

How does it work?

The selection of your drop-off station is meant to help you navigate to your final destination, and also to replace the selection between an urban or an interurban ride. The app will figure out by station location how much to charge you accordingly.

Choose your profile to get the discount you deserve
You can select all the profiles relevant for you, upload the required documents and get the discounts you deserve on public transportation.
Favorites and last rides
After the first use you will be able to scan the QR code easily by tapping your last travels. You can also add your travels to favorites and define specific destinations like home, work, school, classes etc.

Real-time navigation
You will be able to navigate using a map or a list view, and swipe your ticket up to see it, in order to show it for review, if necessary.
